Shorewood Man Tried to Rape Woman in Downtown Joliet Alley: Cops
A patrol officer caught the man as he was about to rape a woman, police said.

A Shorewood man savagely attacked a woman in a downtown Joliet alley and was about to rape her when a patrol officer happened by, police said.
Jeffrey Wibiral, 36, was charged with attempted criminal sexual assault and resisting a police officer in connection with the alleged 10:45 p.m. Friday attack.
Wibiral grabbed a 36-year-old woman as she was walking near the library, forced her to the ground and grabbed $20 out of her pants, police said.

Wibiral then pinned the woman against the wall of a building in an alley between Ottawa and Chicago streets, dropped his pants and attempted to assault her, police said.
A passing patrol officer saw Wibiral holding the woman against the wall while his pants were down and interceded, police said. The officer reportedly chased Wibiral, knocked him down and subdued him.

Wibiral was booked into the Will County jail. He was being held Tuesday in lieu of $25,000 bond.
