Woman Charged With Sneaking Cell Phones Into Stateville

An Aurora woman allegedly smuggled cell phones into Stateville Correctional inmates while working at the prison as a phlebotomist.

A warrant for the arrest of 47-year-old Beverly Turner was issued Thursday. The warrant carries a $40,000 bond.

The charges followed a "thorough investigation" by the Department of Corrections, said Department spokesman Tom Shaer.

Turner is the second contract employee charged with smuggling a cell phone into Stateville in less than three months. Holly Logan, 47, was arrested in June for allegedly sneaking a phone into the prison and also allegedly fondling an inmate's penis.

Logan, a Homer Glen resident, was working at Stateville as a nurse. Her case remains pending.

A source said Turner was working with others outside the prison to get the cell phones into Stateville and that the investigation is ongoing.
