Skokie-Niles Village Crossing Changes Hands In $122M Deal (patch.com) β€” A major ownership change at Village Crossing, the large shopping center straddling Skokie, Niles and Chicago, could reshape where local residents shop and dine. New owner Harbert Management Corporation plans to fill vacant storefronts, refresh the tenant mix with more community-focused retailers and restaurants, and modernize the property with faΓ§ade, lighting and landscaping upgrades.

Illinois Mayor Extends Crossing Time for Shabbat Observers (jfeed.com) β€” Pedestrians crossing Dempster and East Prairie now get 60–65 seconds to cross during Shabbat, after Skokie officials reprogrammed signals so observant residents don't need to press the button. The change, championed by Mayor Ann Tunney, aims to better protect families, seniors, and wheelchair users and may expand to other intersections and Jewish holidays.

Skokie in bloom with new wildflower mural from renowned Detroit-based artist (chicagotribune.com) β€” A new wildflower mural now brightens the corner of Church Street and Crawford Avenue, funded through Skokie's Public Art Program and chosen by the village's public arts advisory committee. Created by renowned muralist Louise Jones, the piece was requested by local business Engage Pilates and quickly completed in August, adding another major public artwork for residents to visit and enjoy.

As of early evening, traffic was still restricted near the Skokie stretch, with vehicles diverted while officers managed the scene and no further details released.

Charges brought against man involved in Relax Spa armed robbery in Evanston (chicagotribune.com) β€” A Chicago man charged in an armed robbery at Evanston's Relax Spa has been ordered held after a detention hearing at the Skokie Courthouse on Old Orchard Road. The case, which involves multiple felony counts and an ongoing investigation, will return to the Skokie Courthouse in early October as detectives continue seeking information from the public.
