First Annual Public Health Partners in Excellence Awards

The Skokie Health Department could not protect the health of
Skokie residents without the cooperation and help of many other
individuals and organizations in the community. To recognize the
critical contribution of these entities, the Health Department and
Board of Health has initiated an annual Public Health Partners in
Excellence Award to be given each year during National Public
Health Week.

This year, the Department recognizes the Oakton Community College (OCC) Nursing School administration, faculty and students for their cooperation, diligence and hard work assisting at the annual community flu clinics. This partnership directly benefits Skokie residents, the Health Department and the OCC students.  The Health Department also recognizes the Animal Medical Center veterinarians, technicians, administration and staff for 25 years of cooperation, compassion, care and hard work boarding and caring for animals found in Skokie. Without their assistance it would be impossible for the Health Department to hold animals for boarding before they can be returned to owners or placed with animal adoption agencies. This cooperation benefits Skokie residents, the Health Department and all of the stray animals found in Skokie.

Awards were presented at the April 4, 2011 Board of Trustees
meeting, recognizing the efforts by the OCC School of Nursing
and Animal Medical Center.“The Health Department is grateful
for the collaborative relationships that have developed with
these organizations and looks forward to continuing these valuable partnerships into the future,” commented
Catherine A. Counard, MD, MPH, Director of Health.
