Big 2020 Census Push This Weekend - Everyone in Skokie Counts!

Respond to the Census online at www.2020census.gov - the questionnaire is simple and easy!

Skokie is joining the State of Illinois and the U.S. Census Bureau in a big media campaign the weekend of May 1 through May 3. A new advertising and a social media blitz is reminding people that it is not too late to respond to the 2020 Census, including a new internet commercial featuring Gov. Pritzker, Mayor Lightfoot, and Cook County Board President Preclwinkle.

Skokie has already had over 17,000 households respond, but there are still around 8,000 more that need to respond online or by phone, or by completing the paper copy that non-responding households recently received. The COVID-19 pandemic underscores the importance of responding to the 2020 Census and the importance of census data. That’s because your response helps shape decisions about how billions of dollars in federal funds flow into communities each year for the next 10 years for critical services, like health care clinics, hospitals, and emergency services like EMTs and fire departments.

“Right now, we have a clear objective,” said Steve Marciani, Skokie Complete Count Committee Chairperson, “and that is to be sure that as many people as possible self-respond and complete the 2020 Census, while staying safe at home and practicing social-distancing. Emergency situations like COVID-19 illustrate just how important it is to respond to the census. Responding now will prevent the need to have a census taker come to your home.”
