Breakthrough Dental Treatment for Gum Recession Now Available in North Shore

A new procedure called the Pinhole Surgical Technique, which is only offered by 550 doctors worldwide, can fix gum recession permanently.

According to the CDC, one out of every two adults aged 30 years or older has periodontal (gum) disease, a chronic inflammatory disease that affects both gum tissue and the bones supporting the teeth. This can result in gum recession, exposing the root of the tooth and inviting decay and dental problems.

Gum recession can also be caused by aggressive brushing, aging, poor dental care, tobacco, or grinding and clenching teeth. Treatment of gum recession early on can prevent more severe dental problems down the road.

Previously, gum recession could only be treated surgically through an invasive gum graft procedure involving scalpels, sutures, and a slow, painful healing process.

A new procedure called the Pinhole Surgical Technique, which is only offered by 550 doctors worldwide, can fix gum recession permanently. The one to two hour minimally-invasive procedure corrects the gumline without incisions, sutures, or gum grafts. Dentists can correct 10-14 teeth per procedure, with three teeth requiring 20 minutes of treatment. Patients can return to work the next day.

Dr. Dino Mantis of Mantis Dentistry & Implant Center in Wilmette is now offering the Pinhole Surgical Technique to patients.
