Bridge Repair Closes Lane, Ramp On Outbound Edens Expressway

The entrance from westbound Dempster Street will be closed Friday, with interim repairs to Church Street bridge ready by next week.

SKOKIE, IL — Repairs to the Church Street bridge over the Edens Expressway will require the closure of the entrance ramp from westbound Dempster Street onto Interstate 94 Friday morning, as well as the right northbound lane north of Dempster Street, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced. The closure will take place, weather permitting, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Interim repairs to the bridge are anticipated to be completed enough for Church Street to open to traffic by Dec. 7, according to IDOT. The overpass has been closed since a truck crashed into its concrete support beams on Nov. 3. Permanent repairs will be scheduled later. Transportation officials said motorists should anticipate delays and allow extra time for travel through the area.
