Cops Save Man Who 'Turned Blue' After Collapse In Police Station

Skokie officers saved the life of a man who walked into the police station lobby in the midst of a cardiac event.

SKOKIE, IL — Staff of the Skokie Police Department saved the life of a man who walked into the police station earlier this month as he was having a heart attack. Police said a man walked into the lobby around 11:13 a.m. on April 4 and asked for help from the front desk before collapsing to the floor and turning blue in the face.

Officer Patrick Panizo was working at the front desk at the time and immediately sprung into action, police said, calling for an ambulance before starting to perform CPR on the man.

Amy Polley, a police communications operator, brought over an automated external defibrillator from a safety station in the front lobby hallway.

When Panizo put the pads onto the man, the device indicated a shock was needed to restore Eddie's heartbeat and he delivered it.

The man was eventually given several more shocks by Skokie Fire Department paramedics arriving on scene before he was taken to the hospital.
