CTA Yellow Line Return Date Announced

Riders will be back on the Skokie and Chicago-bound trains before Halloween.

CTA Yellow Line service will return October 30, the Chicago Tribune reports.

The Yellow Line, which serves commuters between downtown Chicago and Skokie, has been closed since a May 17 embankment collapse occurred in Skokie near McCormick Boulevard and Howard Street.

Caused by the construction of a new waste-treatment plant near the embankment, full responsibility has been taken by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, which owns the property where the collapse occurred. The Tribune also reported the District determined it needed a project at its Skokie plant completed before repairing the embankment.

“Walsh Construction Co. II, the district’s contractor, asked CTA officials to loosen the rules governing how much the elevated tracks could be allowed to move during construction, and the CTA repeatedly granted the requests, emails obtained by the Tribune showed.”

Walsh is expected to turn over the embankment to the CTA on Thursday or Friday, upon which they will perform test runs before opening it back to the public.
