D'Amico Hosting Free Paper Shredding and Electronics Recycling Day

Rep. D'Amico is teaming up with Alderman Laurino and Sheriff Dart to bring you free paper shredding and electronic recycling this Saturday

CHICAGO – To help residents safely dispose of old documents, state Rep. John D’Amico, D-Chicago, is partnering with 39th Ward Alderman Margaret Laurino and Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart to host a free Paper Shredding and Electronics Recycling Day on Saturday, April 30 from 9 a.m. to noon at Colletti’s Restaurant, located at 5707 N. Central Ave.

“Identity theft can happen to anyone at any time, and shredding documents with personal or sensitive information is a simple step we can all take to protect ourselves from becoming victims of crime,” said D’Amico. “This shredding and electronics recycling drive is a convenient and safe way to dispose of old documents and electronics.”

Phone books, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, and materials from businesses will not be accepted at this event. Residents should remove all staples, paper clips and bindings ahead of time. There is a limit of two boxes of paper per resident. Acceptable electronics for recycling include computers, computer accessories, telephones, copiers, fax machines, televisions, small appliances, and VCR and DVD players.

“Many residents are unaware that disposing of electronics in their regular garbage is illegal,” D’Amico added. “Hosting free events like this will help to ensure that all local residents have a way to get rid of bulky or broken electronics, without risking being slapped with a fine.”
