Day Care That Lost Young Girl Won't Face Fines
The Mosaic Early Childhood Center has made a few changes after a 23-month-old girl went missing for nearly 30 minutes in May.

Skokie, IL - The Skokie day care facility where a toddler girl broke through a fence and went unattended in an alley for nearly half an hour in May won’t face any fines from the Department of Children and Family Services.
The Mosaic Early Childhood Center at 4023 Dempster St. was described as “not a problematic day care” in a DCFS statement following an investigation of the department, according to the Skokie Review.
DCFS did send Mosaic several citations and required fixes, all of which have been “quickly remedied.”

Since the incident in late may, Mosaic has put up new fencing that will prevent any child from squeezing between a gap like the 23-month-old girl did. New head count procedures have been put into place which will require staff members to count all children before leaving the playground and before returning to the indoor classroom. A counting log will also be kept and more employees will assist in the transition from playground to classroom.
The young girl was found by a neighbor in an alley between Keystone and Crawford avenues after breaking free from the playground. She was gone for anywhere between 20 and 30 minutes, her mother said.
