Editor, writer and genealogist Martin Fischer will speak about “Finding Living Relatives” at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 17, 2013, at the Jewish Genealogical Society of Illinois meeting in Temple Beth Israel, 3601 W. Dempster St., Skokie.
He will share tips and how-to information about researching, finding and contacting previously unknown living cousins and other relatives. His presentation will include anecdotes about his own discoveries of relatives whom he had never heard of before.

The JGSI meeting facilities at Temple Beth Israel will open at 12:30 p.m. to accommodate members/guests who want to use genealogy library materials, get help with genealogy websites on the Internet, or ask genealogical questions before the main program begins. Fischer, who is vice president-publicity of JGSI, is a part-time copy editor at the Chicago Tribune, and an adjunct faculty member of the City Colleges of Chicago’s Center for Distance Learning and the University of Phoenix. He teaches social science and introductory college writing courses. He is also a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, the International Society of Family History Writers and Editors, the American Copy Editors Society, the Editorial Freelancers Association and the St. Louis Genealogical Society.
