Driver In Deadly Lincolnwood Hit-And-Run Turns Self In: Police

The 63-year-old woman who died Sunday has been identified, while an 18-year-old man awaits criminal charges in connection with her death.

LINCOLNWOOD, IL — Police said the hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a woman in Lincolnwood last weekend turned himself in Tuesday.

Marcia D. Morris, 63, of Chicago, was fatally struck shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday in the 3300 block of Touhy Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Police on Monday said the driver that hit her and left the scene may have been driving a newer model Hyundai SUV.

The following day, an 18-year-old man and his attorney showed up at the Lincolnwood Police Department and admitted he was behind the wheel during the collision, according to police.

"The driver is being cooperative with the police investigation," Lincolnwood police said in a Tuesday evening statement, "and the vehicle involved in the incident, a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe, has been turned over to police for evidence processing."

Police said they were unable to release the identity of the man in custody due to an ongoing criminal investigation, but they expect prosecutors to eventually pursue criminal charges against him.
