FBI Seeking Special Agents in Chicago

Application period open until end of March.

The FBI will accept special agent applications for qualified individuals interested in joining its ranks through Tuesday, March 31.

According to the FBI website, special agents work on a variety of matters, including terrorism, foreign counterintelligence, cyber security/crime, criminal enterprises, white-collar crime, public corruption, civil rights violations, financial crimes, bribery, bank robbery, extortion, kidnapping, air piracy, interstate criminal activity, crimes against children, fugitives, and other violations of federal statutes.

Those interested in applying must apply via www.fbijobs.gov. Applications must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m., March 31, 2015, according to the time zone of the applicant’s local FBI field office.

To qualify, an applicant must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Be at least 23 years of age but younger than 37 at the time of hiring (exceptions include federal law enforcement officers, 1811s, and veterans’ preference-eligible veterans)
  • Have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Have lived in the U.S. for three of the last five years, unless directly deployed overseas by the U.S. government or military (this includes military spouses)
  • Have a valid driver’s license and at least six months driving experience

Applicants should also have three years of full-time (at least 36 hours per week) professional work experience. Possible exceptions to this requirement include applicants with computer science or IT backgrounds, foreign language speakers who score 3 or higher on an FBI language test, former FBI Honors Interns with at least a 3.0 GPA, applicants with a Juris Doctor, and applicants with a master’s and/or doctoral degree (may be considered with only two years work experience).
