Former D-219 IT Staffer Denied Overtime: Lawsuit

A former employee sued District 219 alleging violations of federal and state labor laws.

SKOKIE, IL — A former employee at Niles Township High School District 219 filed a lawsuit last month accusing the district of violating labor laws. According to the lawsuit, filed Aug. 16 in federal court, Adnan Memon worked on network systems at two school locations for the district. The suit alleges he and other unnamed "past and present employees" were required to work off the clock for more than forty hours a week without being paid overtime, in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Illinois Minimum Wage Law.

The suit names the district and its former chief technology officer, Guy Ballard, as defendants. It seeks compensation for all unpaid hours of overtime for the past two years, as well as lawyers' fees and any "additional relief as the Court deems appropriate under the circumstances." The suit leaves open the possibility of other former employees to form a class action. (Get Patch real-time email alerts for the latest news for Skokie — or your Illinois community. At a District 219 School Board meeting Sept. 13, the board members voted 6-0 to authorize joint legal representation for Ballard, who retired last year, and the district, the Skokie Review reported.

Superintendent Steven Isoye told the paper the district would have no comment on Memon's claims because of the pending litigation.
