Free Rides on CTA Yellow Line For First Week After Return

The service will return on October 30 after five months.

The CTA Yellow Line will run Friday for the first time in more than five months, and to welcome back customers the service will be free for its first eight days.

“It’s part of an aggressive campaign rebuild ridership on the line,” according to CBS-2-Chicago. “CTA also will provide free parking for riders at its Dempster terminal through year’s end. CTA is also doing outreach, going door-to-door in Skokie to urge people to use the line.”

A reopening ceremony with local dignitaries will take place at 7:30 a.m. Friday at the Oakton-Skokie station. Some of them will be riding a few CTA historic fleet cars, which were retired earlier this year.

The service has been down since an embankment below the tracks collapsed on May 17 near McCormick Boulevard in Skokie. Since then, riders have been bussed to their destinations at no charge. Parking at both Skokie stations has been free and will be free throughout the remainder of the year.
