Gunman Takes Cash, Cigarettes In Skokie Armed Robbery: Blotter

A chainsaw was stolen from a school and a man brandished a sword from a trunk in the Skokie Police Department blotter for April 25 to May 3.

SKOKIE, IL — The following information comes from the Skokie Police Department as a record of those recently arrested and of incidents reported to the police. Readers are reminded that getting arrested does not mean that you are guilty, as criminal charges represent merely accusations that are often dropped or reduced.

SHOPLIFTING
Someone replaced merchandise with playing cards at an office supply store in the 5500 block of Touhy Avenue between Dec. 24 and April 26.

THEFT
A theft of less than $500 took place between 10:45 and 11:09 p.m. on April 26 in the 7600 block of Lincoln Avenue.

ARMED ROBBERY
An unidentified man wearing a black hoodie, dark pants and a black bandana over his face brandished a handgun and stole cash and cigarettes from a convenience store in the 8300 block of Skokie Boulevard between 4:52 and 5:36 a.m. on April 27. The robber fled southbound on Skokie Boulevard.

BURGLARY
Someone stole a chainsaw and a hedge trimmer from a barn at Niles North High School in the 9800 block of Lawler Avenue between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on April 27.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a car from the 5100 block of Madison Street sometime between Sept. 30, 2017 and April 28, police were told.

STOLEN TRACTOR (ATTEMPT)
Someone tried to steal a Volvo tractor parked in the Walmart parking lot in the 3600 block of Touhy Avenue.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT/SWORDSMAN
A man reportedly got out of a vehicle around 3 p.m. on April 29 in the 4100 block of Skokiana Terrance and removed a sword from his trunk in the midst of a road rage incident. The man then began walking toward the person who called police before realizing they were on the phone. The man then walked back to his vehicle and left headed southbound on Kedvale Avenue.


ARRESTS

Theodora T. Kolb, 67, of the 0-100 block of East Marshall Avenue in Phoenix, Arizona was arrested shortly before 1 p.m. on April 26 at a store in the 5500 block of Touhy Avenue and charged with retail theft.

Nita M. King, 40, of the 2600 block of South California Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 8:04 a.m. on April 29 at the Walmart in the 3600 block of Touhy Avenue and charged with retail theft and resisting police after fleeing police.

Paul F. House, 58, of the 4800 block of Mulford Street in Skokie, was arrested at 9:24 p.m. on April 29 at his home on a warrant issued by Will County for failure to appear in court.

Maria Garcia, 51, of the 7900 block of Kenneth Avenue in Skokie, was arrested at 2:02 p.m. on April 30 in the 8000 block of Lincoln Avenue and charged with battery.

Edward C. Bennit, 26, of the 100 block of North Wolcott Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 11:39 p.m. on April 30 in the 4800 block of Washington Street and charged with battery.

Christopher M. Bernal, 24, of the 6900 block of North Keystone Avenue in Lincolnwood, was arrested at 5:26 p.m. on April 30 in the 3600 block of Oakton Street and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Angie A. Markhay, 39, of the 8500 block of Harding Avenue in Skokie, was arrested at 11:11 a.m. on May 1 at the Skokie Police Department and charged in connection with a hit-and-run traffic crash.

Elvis Logan, 18, of the 7800 block of Lamon Avenue in Skokie, was arrested at 8:20 a.m. on May 3 in the 5500 block of Warren Street and charged with two counts of felony aggravated battery and one count of resisting arrest after reportedly punching two Niles West High School security officers.
