Gunman Takes Electronics; Neighbors Arrested Together: Blotter

Skokie Police Blotter: May 25 - June 12

SKOKIE, IL — The following information comes from the Skokie Police Department as a record of those recently arrested and of incidents reported to the police. Readers are reminded that arrest does not prove guilt, as criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced.

INCIDENTS

BATTERY/THEFT
Around 3 a.m. on May 28, a theft of labor or services and a battery was reported in the 5200 block of Dempster Street.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT
Around 1:38 p.m. on May 28, a domestic battery was reported in the 3900 block of Harvard Terrace. Police did not disclose if anyone was arrested.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a car from the 5200 block of Coyle Avenue between 5 p.m. on May 28 and 2:33 a.m. on May 29.

HOME BURGLARY
Someone broke into a home in the 5000 block of Estes Avenue between 3:05 and 4:44 a.m. on May 29.

CAR BURGLARIES
Car burglaries were reported around Skokie on May 29:

  • Six vehicles in the 5100 block of Fairview Lane
  • Three vehicles in the 5000 block of Fairview Lane
  • Six vehicles in the 5000 block of Estes Avenue
  • One vehicle in the 4900 block of Morse Avenue
  • One vehicle in the 5000 block of Farwell Avenue
  • One vehicle in the 9800 block of Keeler Avenue
  • One vehicle in the 6800 block of Laramie Avenue

AGGRAVATED BATTERY, ETC
At 8:27 p.m. on May 29, an incident involving aggravated battery, attempting to disarm police, criminal damage, domestic battery, interfering with the reporting of domestic violence and illegal possession of alcohol by a minor was reported in the 4800 block of Greenleaf Street. Police did not say if anyone was arrested.

VANDALISM
Several incidents of spray painted and damaged vehicles were reported on May 30 in the area of the 3300 block of Capitol Street.

UNLAWFUL USE OF WEAPONS/DISORDERLY CONDUCT
An incident involving illegal weapons use and causing someone to feel shock and alarm was reported around 2:13 p.m. on May 30 in the 8300 block of Knox Avenue.

ARMED ROBBERY
A man brandishing a handgun went into a business in the 9300 block of Skokie Boulevard around 8:53 p.m. on May 30. The gunman forced an employee to fill a bag with various electronic items and left the scene in a dark-colored Honda SUV. The robber was described as having a medium height and build, being of an unknown race and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans, sunglasses and gloves.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT
Someone pointed a black handgun at a person during an argument around 9:30 p.m. on May 30 in the 9100 block of Lawler Avenue. The alleged gunman was known to the victim.

HOME BURGLARY
Someone broke into a home in the 8500 block of Hamilton Drive between 7:30 on May 31 and 12:03 a.m. on June 1.

PURSE SNATCHING/IDENTITY THEFT
Someone stole a purse from the Goodwill store in the 5500 block of Touhy Avenue between 6:08 and 9:29 p.m. on June 1.

AGGRAVATED BATTERY
Around 9:15 p.m. on June 1, an aggravated assault and aggravated battery was reported in the 4900 block of Old Orchard Road.

STOLEN CARS
Someone stole a car in the 7500 block of Tripp Avenue around 9 a.m. on June 2.

Another car was reported stolen in the 7500 block of Lincoln Avenue between 7:30 p.m. on June 5 and 6 p.m. on June 6.

CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
A nude photo of a student was reported on on 3:24 p.m. June 6 during another Skokie Police Department investigation.

HOME BURGLARY (ATTEMPT)
A resident in the 9500 block of Gross Point Road in Skokie reported that someone had tried to pry open a door between the afternoon of June 1 and the morning of June 7.

HOME BURGLARY (THWARTED)
Someone jimmied open the front door to an apartment in the 7900 block of Karlov Avenue around 10:15 a.m. on June 8. The person was confronted by the homeowner and left the scene.

AGGRAVATED BATTERY
Someone spat and pushed two people in the 8000 block of Lincoln Avenue around 3:50 p.m. on June 8.

STOLEN CAR (ATTEMPT)
Someone tried to steal a van parked in a driveway in the 5100 block of Pratt Avenue between 6:30 p.m. June 8 and 7 a.m. on June 9.


ARRESTS

Brittney N. Green, 19, of the 9400 block of LeClaire Avenue in Skokie, was arrested at 1:30 p.m. at the Old Orchard Shopping Center and charged with retail theft.

Richard F. Zumba, 39, of the 5700 block of North Richmond Street in Chicago, was arrested at 12:27 a.m. on May 30 in the 7100 block of Lincoln Avenue and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Joemel V. Chua, 19, and Aamir Hussain, 48, who live in different units in an building the 9100 block of Lawler Avenue in Skokie, were both arrested at 12:50 a.m. on May 30 and charged with disorderly conduct at their building. Jobb P. Panaligan, 19, of the 5700 block of North Richmond Street in Chicago was also arrested in the incident and charged with disorderly conduct.

Yanier M. Gato, 29, of the 5600 block of North Kenmore Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 4:09 p.m. on May 31 in the 3300 block of Madison Street on an in-state warrant.

Klaudia K. Karatnik, 23, of the 900 block of Washington Street in Glenview, was arrested at 3:42 a.m. on June 1 in the 3800 block of Dempster Street and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and with a blood alcohol concentration above 0.08.

Sara A. Duna, 23, and Frank J. Horvath, 28, both of the 4900 block of West Patterson Avenue in Chicago, were arrested at 11:18 a.m. on June 1 at the Village Crossing shopping center in the 5500 block of Touhy Avenue. They were both charged with retail theft.

Lindsey Laarveld, 32, of the 3100 block of West Jarvis Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 1:04 p.m. on June 1 at the Skokie Police Department and charged with retail theft.

Wallid Awshama, 33, of the 7800 block of North Nordica Avenue in Niles, was arrested at 12:36 p.m. on June 2 at the Skokie Police Department and charged with failure to give information after striking a vehicle or property.

Scott Jobe-Scott, 24, of the 1300 block of Brummel Street in Evanston, was arrested at 7:51 p.m. on June 2 in the 1800 block of Darrow Avenue and charged with aggravated and aggravated assault.

Laura Rose Giamalva Mirza, 45, of the 3300 block of North Rutherford Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 3:30 p.m. on June 3 at the Old Orchard Shopping Center and charged with retail theft.

Neenif I. Namrood, 33, of the 3900 block of Brummel Street in Skokie was arrested at 7:12 a.m. on June 6 in the 3900 block of Dempster Street and charged with driving under the influence of drugs.

Elyssa D. Slivnick, 20, of the 2500 block of Greenleaf Avenue in Wilmette, was arrested at 8:50 p.m. on June 7 in the 9200 block of Skokie Boulevard and charged with possession of a controlled substance and a fake identification card.

Fernando Cervantes, 39, of the 1900 block of West 21st Street in Chicago, was arrested at 7:38 p.m. on June 8 at the Old Orchard Shopping Center and charged with retail theft.

Mansfield L. Wallace, 46, of the 1900 block of Jackson Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at 5:39 p.m. on June 10 at the Walmart in the 3600 block of Touhy Avenue and charged with retail theft and criminal trespassing.

Jada D. Kirksey, 21, of the 1600 block of Sunset Avenue in Waukegan, was arrested at 8:05 p.m. on June 11 at the Skokie Police Department and charged with battery.

Jose A. Del Toro, 55, of the 8700 block of Springfield Avenue in Skokie, was arrested at 1:12 a.m. on June 12 in the 8700 block of Avers Avenue and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and a hit-and-run reported around 10:30 p.m. on June 11 in the 8700 block of Harding Avenue.

Megan T. Duffin, 35, of the 2300 block of North Commonwealth Avenue in Chicago, was arrested 3:01 a.m. on June 12 in the 5800 block of Oakton Street and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Sherri L. Valentin, 61, of the 3000 block of North Oconto Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 3:47 p.m. on June 12 at the Walmart in the 3600 block of Touhy Avenue and charged with retail theft.

Manuel Escalante-Martinez, 35, of the 4900 block Crain Street in Skokie, was arrested at 11:51 p.m. on June 12 in the 8001 block of Skokie Boulevard and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
