Hassam Uddin Receives Telecommunications and Technology Award

Given by Skokie Telecommunications and Technology Commission

( )

In March 2019, the Skokie Telecommunications and Technology Commission (STAT) attended the Illinois Junior Academy Science Fair at Niles North High School. As special judges, Skokie Mayor George Van Dusen and STAT Commissioners awarded the annual Skokie Telecommunications and Technology Award to Niles North High School student Hassam Uddin. His project was selected for the award because it was the most technologically sophisticated, was practical on a smallscale and could, if applied, be beneficial to Skokie.

Uddin’s project ,“Using Machine Learning to Predict the Likelihood of Pneumonia”, impressively utilized artificial intelligence to increase the speed and accuracy of diagnosing pneumonia in medical patients. The system uses ImageNet technology that compares medical images in a public database to the patient’s current images to detect certain patterns and make diagnostic predictions.

At the May 6 Village Board meeting, Mayor George Van Dusen and STAT Commission Chairman Sam Corcione presented Uddin with the award.
