Irma Levy, 88.

Service Wednesday 12 noon at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd (at Niles Center Road), Skokie. Interment Memorial Park.

Irma Levy, 88, was born January 18, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York, Irma came to Chicago as a 1 year old with her parents, Morris and Sarah Putterman, and her 3 older brothers, Eli, Harry and Joseph.

Irma lived at home and graduated from Marshall High School and then went to the University of Illinois at Navy Pier. After 1 year of college, Irma decided to take a job as a Secretary at Sears Roebuck. She worked there until after she married Leroy and until she was 6 months pregnant with her first son, Steven. Irma and Leroy married on October 6, 1956. They lived in an apartment until they bought their first and only home in West Rogers Park in 1964.

They joined Congregation Ezras Israel and Irma joined the Sisterhood and was active until she became ill. Irma was a Cub Scout Den Mother at her home for all 3 of her sons and many of her sons’ friends and neighborhood boys. In the Summer, Irma loved to go to South Haven, Michigan, rent a cottage and stay at the lake and watch her boys play on the beach. After her boys grew up, Irma went back to work as a secretary for a packaging company for 25 years, until the company moved to the far suburbs. Everyone loved Irma. Words cannot express how much she will be missed. Irma was a wonderful, devoted and caring wife, mother, Nana, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to so many. She was the most selfless person anyone ever met. She was a true matriarch and the glue that held her family together. She devoted her life to her husband and boys.
