Jazz Concert at Skokie Theater Nov. 16 to Support Gilda's Club

Skokie, Ill. — For the past 30 years, Chicago vocalist Bradford Newquist has led something of a double life — director of development at Gilda’s Club Chicago and other large non-profits by day; a well-known singer with the Stanley Paul Orchestra, the City Lights Orchestra and more by night.

Now, Newquist is pleased to bring both sides of his life together in one exciting evening, as he performs the songs from his newest album, Quiet Nights, and other songs from the Great American Songbook at the album’s launch party, which will also serve as a fundraiser for Gilda’s Club. The event will take place on Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Skokie Theatre, 7924 Lincoln Ave., Skokie. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at https://skokietheatre.org/bradford-newquist.html. Proceeds will benefit Gilda’s Club Chicago.

“I’m so excited to be able to do what I love in front of a live audience again and to have the chance to give back to an organization that does so much for people living with cancer,” Newquist says. “For me, this is really a dream come true.”

The first act of the concert will feature songs from Quiet Nights, Newquist’s fourth studio album, including familiar jazz and pop standards from songwriters as wide ranging as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Hoagy Carmichael, Michel LeGrand, and The Cure, all presented with freshness and originality.

In addition to Newquist on vocals, the concert will also feature many notable members of the Chicago music scene: Paul Von Mertens of Poi Dog Pondering on saxophone, clarinet and flute; world-renowned jazz guitarist Don Stiernberg on guitar; Malcolm Ruhl, music director of the Goodman Theatre, on bass; and David Victor on drums. Several guest artists will also perform, including Alison Tatum on violin and Tobin Schindler on cello on “That Old Black Magic,” and Anne DeLangis Thompson, a former vocalist with the Stanley Paul Orchestra, as a guest vocalist on “My Foolish Heart” and “(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons.” The music was arranged by music director and pianist William Underwood.

In the second act of the concert, Newquist will perform songs from the Great American Songbook, from composers such as Gershwin, Porter and Rogers and songs sung by vocal legends like Sinatra, Cole, Clooney and Martin.

Newquist is most well-known to audiences for his appearances at many Chicago cabaret and concert venues, and for his 13 years as the lead male vocalist of the Stanley Paul Orchestra. Today, Newquist is a vocalist with the City Lights Orchestra, performs solo concerts, and leads the William Underwood Quartet.
