Join Congregation Bene Shalom for "Show in the Shul" November 10

Skokie, IL (September, 2024) “I came to PRAY and I left FULFILLED” were the words echoed by one of Bene Shalom’s congregants.

Congregation Bene Shalom Hebrew Association for the Deaf and Hearing (CBS) boasts a rich 50-year history as the pioneering nationwide temple dedicated to both hearing and deaf Jewish members. All services, including Shabbat and holiday observances, feature ASL interpretation. Embracing a philosophy that everyone deserves access to God and prayer, CBS offers a distinctive and inclusive experience. Welcoming people of all backgrounds, faiths, all sexual orientations and gender identities, this beloved temple is currently facing financial difficulties.

To support our mission, CBS is thrilled to host a benefit featuring an afternoon of music and comedy on Sunday, November 10th at 3:00pm (doors open at 2:00pm) to raise awareness and support for the temple’s needs.

Popular Chicago entertainers, our very own Rabbi Charlene Brooks, Jan Slavin and Pam Peterson (“The Boomer Babes”) and Carla Gordon come together as the “Yenta-tainers” in a three-set afternoon of song and laughter.

Before becoming a Rabbi, Brooks had a distinguished career as a singer and cabaret performer, writer, lyricist and actress performing her one-woman shows while being the Cantorial soloist with CBS. Performing across both secular and religious spheres, she began her journey with big bands and continues to sell out concerts at the Skokie Theatre.

Slavin and Peterson, known as “The Boomer Babes,” bring their generation's quirks to life with a blend of zany humor and distinctive style.

Completing the lineup is singer Carla Gordon, whom Cabaret Scenes Magazine hailed as “hilarious, touching, and showstopping”.
