Lincolnwood Police Respond To Skokie's Lip Synch Challenge

Lincolnwood's video response challenged Evanston and the Chicago P.D.'s 24th District.

LINCOLNWOOD, IL — The first of two local police departments challenged by Skokie police to complete a lip synch video responded with the help of a local television station. A video starring the Lincolnwood Police Department and produced with the help of a WCIU-TV morning show crew aired for the first time Monday, nearly a month after the Skokie Police Department issued the challenge to police in Lincolnwood and Niles at the close of their widely-shared video.

Lincolnwood P.D.'s video begins with Chief Jay Parrot and Young MC's "Bust A Move," before an abrupt crossfade (0:39) into "Footlose" by Kenny Loggins. After the 1 minute mark, the camera heads to the gym for "Good Vibrations" Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch & Loleatta Holloway.

Keeping with the early 1990s theme, we next get a taste of SNAP!'s "Rhythm is a Dancer" (1:25) during a briefing room jam. We then venture forward musically by a quarter century to close out to the tune of Justin Timberlake's chart-topping pop hit from the soundtrack to the movie "Trolls" ("Can't Stop The Feeling!" at 1:47).

After fading out to a bit of drone photography, Lincolnwood police challenge Evanston P.D., Parrot's former department, and the Chicago Police Department's 24th District, which includes the neighborhoods of Rogers Park and West Ridge.

The Niles Police Department was also challenged by Skokie P.D. in at the end of a video that had accrued nearly a quarter million views on YouTube in its first month online. At a National Night Out event earlier this month, Niles Police Chief Luis Tigera vowed to respond:

Lincolnwood cops knew they needed to step up after they were challenged by Skokie, Officer Sandy Martin told WCIU's Jordan Cornette. Still, some degree of patience was needed to complete the video.

"We are definitely not dancers, we are definitely out of our element," Martin said. "But sometimes you need to not be afraid to get out of your comfort zone and we created something, I thought, that was just an amazing experience and something we will never forget."

As for the two departments challenged by Lincolnwood, the Chicago Police Department's 24th District did not immediately respond to a request for comment and an Evanston Police Department spokesperson said the department was aware of Lincolnwood's challenge.

"I'll confirm ours will be better," said Cmdr. Ryan Glew.
