Morton Grove Man, 69, Dies In 3-Car Crash On Edens Expressway

The taxi he was driving overturned after it was struck by a BMW early Sunday morning.

SKOKIE, IL — A 69-year-old Morton Grove man died when the taxi he was driving overturned during a three-car traffic crash in Skokie, authorities said. Four other people were taken to the hospital after the collision, which closed all lanes of the northbound Edens Expressway for several hours Sunday morning.

State police said a 24-year-old man lost control of a black BMW sedan at 1:37 a.m. near the Gross Point Road and struck a black Chevrolet sedan and a white Toyota taxi.

Jayson Sun Joo Park, 69, of Morton Grove, was driving the taxi, which rolled over during after being struck. He was pronounced dead around 2 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, which ruled his death an accident caused by multiple blunt force injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 26-year-old woman, the BMW's driver and his two passengers, a 32-year-old man and a 26-year-old women, were taken to local hospitals with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening.

State police said it was not known if the drivers or passengers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Northbound lanes of Interstate 94 remained closed until about 8:15 a.m. Sunday.

Illinois State Police spokesperson Woodrow Montgomery Monday declined to release any information about whether any citations had been issued or whether alcohol or speed was thought to be a factor in the incident.
