Niles West Student Selected for Loyola University Summer Research Program
The Niles West student was one of two Chicago-area students chosen for the summer program.
Niles West High School student Anam Furrukh was selected for the Loyola University Research and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (REAP) Summer Research Program. Furrukh was one of two Chicago-area students chosen for this program. She worked under the direction of Faculty Research Mentor Ken Olsen in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Her project was titled “The Development of a Targeted Photodynamic Therapy Agent.” Furrukh received a $1,500 stipend for her work this summer.
The Academy of Applied Sciences and Loyola University Chicago gives high school students a rare opportunity to engage in cutting-edge scientific research. REAP selects current high school students of exceptional academic merit who are considering a career in science or science-related areas. Successful applicants to REAP spend a summer at Loyola working closely with top scientists on an ongoing research project.
