He spent most of his life in Highland Park before moving to Covenant Village of Northbrook in 2011 where he spent the last of his days until April 24, 2018 when he departed from this earth.

In his early life, Arnie found purpose in the Boy Scouts of America, Highland Park Troop 324. He worked hard through the years and received the honor of Eagle Scout, then served as a troop leader for many years thereafter Arnie graduated from Highland Park High School in 1952 then moved on to Iowa State where he earned his degree in Industrial Education in 1957. As a young man Arnie also began a life-long interest in bird watching through a neighbor. He was a member of the Illinois Audubon Society, being heavily involved with the Lake-Cook chapter of the IAS, at some times being their chapter president. He was also part of a Tuesday birding group as well as took many trips around the country to see migrations and birds he would not normally see in Illinois.

When Arnie moved to Covenant Village, he quickly injected himself into the active life there by being on the Resident's Council, the Holly Fair Committee, a steward of CVON wood shop, a member of their pool team as well as partaking of their many field trips and exercise classes.
