Featured Obituary:

Jay Krishna Pandit, 89, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Nagpur, India, in 1928, he was a champion debater, editor of the newspaper The Genius, and a graduate of the Nagpur Medical College.

Pandit came to the United States in 1957 for his surgical internship and residency and became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He was Chief of Surgery and Medical Director of Thorek Hospital and a trustee of Thorek Foundation. He went on to become Dean of Clinical Affairs of St. James School of Medicine until his retirement at age 88.

On his first day of residency at the American Hospital in Chicago, he met Maura,nee McElligott, a beautiful Irish nurse, from County Kerry. They were married for 54 years.

He is survived by his favorite daughter, Solita (Gene) Murphy, and favorite son Shaun (Kristin) and five grandchildren Conor, Daniel and Caitlin Murphy, and Charles and Joseph Pandit.

Jay was known for his quick wit, inspirational speeches, and generous spirit. He lived by the words, “what you give, you always have.”

With a twinkle in his eye, he was always the first to take the dance floor.


Visitation: Saturday, November 4, 2017, 9:30 a.m. until time of Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. at Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Boulevard at Old Orchard Road, Skokie, IL 60077.
