Donald E. Long, 93, lifelong resident of Glenview, passed away surrounded by his loving family on September 16, 2021. He was the beloved husband for 66 years of Mary Long nee Rieb; loving father of Linda (Dennis) Burmeister and Cheryl (Martin) Haugen; cherished grandfather of Bryan (Erin) Burmeister, Matthew (Laura) Burmeister, Christopher Haugen and Emma Haugen (fiancé Travis Toliver); proud great grandfather of Elaine “Ellie”; dear brother of Melvin (Late Lois) Long and the late Virginia (late Alfred) Winkleman.

Don was a graduate of Oakton Community College and Southern Illinois University. He was a proud veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War. Don was a volunteer fireman for Glenbrook Rural Fire District many years. He was one of the first three hired by the Glenbrook Fire Protection District and rose through the ranks to become Chief. He was the Past Commander of Joseph Sesterhenn Glenview American Legion Post # 166, Past President of the Glenview History Center and Glenview Council of the US Navy League. Don was a member of Glenview Sunrise Rotary Club, Glenview Naval Air Museum Board of Directors, Glenview Park District Starlite Singers and Civil War Reenactor. He was also team captain for Rebuilding Together for many years. He was awarded Glenview Citizen of the Year in 1994 and Alumni of the Year of Oakton Community College.

One of his favorite past times was to volunteer and be a docent at the Wagner Farm in Glenview. The passion came from the fact that Don grew up on his family farm in Glenview which is now Flick Park. He was also a member of the church choir and would be a part of the many plays they performed.
