Vernon Salem Swanson age 88. He was proud of his military service in the army. Employed with the city of Evanston Water Filtration Plant for 29 years. He was an avid fisherman which he taught to his sons. A handy man to those in need and a man who will be missed by those who he met. Beloved husband for 53 yrs. to the late Josephine Swanson; loving father of James Swanson, Stephen (Tina) Swanson and the late Thomas Swanson; proud grandfather of Eric and Kirk; great-grandfather of Logan, Adrianna and Mia; dear brother of Donald Swanson and Mildred O’Boyle;fond uncle to many; preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Selma Swanson; brothers Ted, Art, Wilfred and Clifford and sisters Myrtle Person and Blanche Melser. Visitation, Saturday, January 3, 2015 10:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Services 12:00 Noon at Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Blvd. Skokie, IL 60077.
