Potash Markets in Chicago - the Illinois Retail Merchants Association’s 2011 Retailer of the Year - are once again supporting National Ovarian Cancer Awareness and they have been since September 1. The Potash families from Glenview, Lincolnwood, Skokie & Chicago - and their employees - are proudly working with the "Turn The Towns Teal" charity through October 31.
This is their second year in a row for Potash Markets and "Turn The Towns Teal" promotes awareness of ovarian cancer and its silent symptoms. The end result is: the earlier the diagnosis, the better the prognosis.
Throughout September & October Potash Markets have partnered with Frederick Wildman & Sons and Folonari Wines for this charity. The end result is that for every bottle of Folonari sold, a donation of 50¢ from Wildman and 50¢ from Potash Markets will be made to Turn The Towns Teal.
Potash Markets began in 1950 and still includes original owners/brothers Mel & Dave, plus their sister Marian. Mel can joke that "the new guy" is his son Art, who joined them 30 years ago.
President & CEO Art Potash said last year: "I'm excited about the opportunity to help a good cause as part of our role in the community during the course of doing business." and this year he adds: "It seems the need is greater this year and so our desire to raise more funds also increases. We hope to improve upon last year in promotional activity and fundraising."
Noted wine authority/veteran employee Alan Blum says: "This year the response has been great. More people are aware of this story than last year and they're buying the wine both because they like it and the story attached to it! We're hoping to break sales from last year and get more donated to the cause than ever."
The final tally for the donations to "Turn The Town Teal" will easily be in the hundreds - and possibly in the thousands - of dollars.
