Science Confronts Race: A Contested History

Thursday, November 6, 5:00-8:00 pm

Using the concept of “race” to understand differences between human groups has a long and troubled history in the biological and biomedical sciences. This talk will review some of this history and discuss why the use of race in science, especially the new genetics/genomics, raises significant ethical issues that require more meaningful pubic dialog. Registration required; limited seating available. Panelists include Dr. Evelynn M. Hammonds, Barbara Gutmann Rosencrantz Professor of the History of Science and Professor of African and African American Studies, Harvard University.

Reservations required: RACEexhibit@ywcae-ns.org.
