SKOKIE, IL - An off-duty Cook County Sheriff’s correctional officer helped save a man who was hit by a car on Lincoln Avenue last week.
Department of Corrections officer Wade Wicker was alerted to a pedestrian - an 81-year-old man - who was struck by a vehicle in the 5400 block of Lincoln Avenue around 5:35 p.m. on Dec. 9, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
While the man was still lying in the street, Wicker checked to see if he was responsive and after he heard 911 had been called, instructed a bystander to redirect traffic. Wicker also told the victim not to move in case there were additional injuries.
