Skokie Commission Approves Plans For 12-Story Luxury Apartment

The "8000 North" project at Oakton and Lincoln cleared its first regulatory hurdle last week.

SKOKIE, IL — The Skokie Appearance Commission approved Wednesday a plan to build a 12-story apartment building on one-acre of village-owned land at Lincoln Avenue and Oakton Street. The site, formerly home to a cocktail lounge and restaurant, was purchased by the village over the past two years as part of a downtown revitalization plan, Crain's Chicago Business reported.

The proposed building, called 8000 North, promises views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago Skyline within walking distance of the CTA Yellow Line and apartments renting for between $1,400 for a studio and $4,000 for a three bedroom, according to its developers, Greenspire Capital of Winnetka.

The architect of 8000 North, Lucien Lagrange, has built several luxury towers in Chicago and New York City, including the Park Tower, the Waldorf Astoria, the Park Tower and the Hard Rock Hotel.
