February 13, 2020, Skokie, IL– Today, the North Suburban Healthcare Foundation (NSHF) and the Skokie Community Foundation (SCF) announced a new annual Skokie Community Healthcare Symposium.

The NorthShore Healthcare Foundation was established as a successor foundation over 10 years ago as part of the transition of Skokie Hospital from the Rush System to NorthShore University HealthSystem. The Foundation was charged with improvement of healthcare to the Skokie community and active engagement with programs at NorthShore University Skokie Hospital. Under the leadership of its Chair, Beverley Kroll, the Foundation awarded major grants to agencies engaged in the delivery of healthcare services and the promotion of community health within the Village of Skokie and surrounding communities. NSHF is in the process of winding up its affairs and is making its final major grant to SCF to continue NSHF’s mission of promoting community health by hosting an annual healthcare symposium for the community for the next ten years.

During its tenure, NSHF made significant grants to: NorthShore University HealthSystem; The Chicago Lighthouse; Heartland Health Centers; Turning Point Behavioral Health Care Center; Erie Family Health Center, Inc.; and Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center. SCF will invite these organizations to work with it on the symposium.

SCF works to foster an engaged and welcoming Skokie through meaningful programming for the community. Since 2015 it has awarded grants to local organizations who, partnering together, have worked to improve life in Skokie in healthcare, the arts, education, and youth and senior services. SCF is pleased to add this annual healthcare symposium to the work it does for the benefit of Skokie. Plans for the 2020 symposium will be announced later this year.
