Skokie Man Identified as Chicago's First Homicide Victim of 2017

A 38-year-old was shot in the Uptown neighborhood just hours after midnight on New Year's Day.

CHICAGO, IL - The first identified Chicago homicide victim of 2017 was a Skokie man who was killed just hours after the new year hit in the city's Uptown neighborhood.

Maurice Delaney, 38, who lived in the 9000 block of Skokie Boulevard, was shot in the chest and right leg around 4:25 a.m. on Jan. 1 in the 4600 block of North Broadway near the Wilson Avenue Subway station, according to a Chicago Tribune report. Another man who was shot and killed in the same incident has not been identified.

Delaney was pronounced dead at 5:19 a.m. at Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
