When Are Official Trick-Or-Treat Hours in Skokie?

Artwork from local students will be on display in downtown Skokie the day before Halloween.

SKOKE, IL — Village officials have designated Halloween trick-or-treating hours in Skokie as 3 to 8 p.m. this year.

Trick-or-treaters were encouraged not to ring doorbells before or after those hours, and to limit trick-or-treating to home that have a porch light turned on.

Village health department staff suggested residents consider the Illinois Department of Public Health's Halloween 2021 health and safety recommendations.

Public health officials suggest that kids and others dressing up for Halloween incorporate a face mask into the costume, but avoid wearing a costume mask over a mask to prevent the spread of COVID-19 due to the risk that it will impede breaking.

IDPH guidance for neighborhood trick-or-treating includes the following:

Outdoor areas are safer for trick-or-treating than enclosed indoor areas, like apartment buildings, that present a greater risk of transmission. Trick-or-treating in small groups for a brief duration at each door is highly recommended, as opposed to large groups. If trick-or-treating outdoors is not possible, there are steps people can take to make indoor trick-or-treating safer. Hosts indoors should open doors and windows as much as possible to promote increased ventilation and masks should be properly worn. Hand washing is important, especially for those handing out and receiving treats.

Households that do not want trick-or-treaters coming to their door were encouraged to turn off their outdoor lights or post signage on their doors notifying visitors they are not participating.

The day before Halloween night, 45 local businesses will be giving out candy and other surprises around Downtown Skokie Trick-or-Treat.

Music from a DJ is scheduled at the southeast corner of Lincoln Avenue and Oakton Street, with local businesses showcasing more than 300 Halloween-themed posted designed by students at Skokie School District 69.

Official trick-or-treat bags are available the week of Oct. 25 or the day of the event at Al’s Cycle Shop, Crafty Beaver Home Center, Edward Jones Investments, Indigo Home Remodeling, Law Offices of Naheed Amdani, Mini-Man Monkey Brains, Skokie Chamber of Commerce or Swift Child Care Center, according to an announcement from village staff.

After Halloween, pumpkins can be dropped off for composting from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 7 at the Dumpster in the parking lot at the northwest corner of Oakton Street and Floral Avenue, across from Village Hal. Residents were asked not to bring jack-o-laterns with non-biodegradable materials like candles, plastic or googly eyes.
