Snacking Shoplifter Shows Gun To Grocery Store Staff: Blotter

A sexual assault reported on a school bus and an armed robbery of a taxi driver are on the Skokie Police Department blotter from Feb. 14–28.

SKOKIE, IL — The following information comes from the Skokie Police Department as a record of those recently arrested and of incidents reported to the police. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Readers are reminded that everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless their guilt is established beyond a reasonable doubt, and criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced.

INCIDENTS

SHOPLIFTING PHARMACEUTICALS
A man in a yellow and orange CTA vest with blue jeans, a large black jacket and a black beanie stole about $830 worth of over the counter medication from the Target at 4955 Dempster Street sometime after about 8:41 p.m. on Feb. 16.

BURGLARY
A burglary was reported between 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 18 in the 5000 block of Lee Street.

CRIMINAL SEXUAL ASSAULT
A girl reported on Feb. 27 that she had been sexually assaulted by a juvenile student on a school bus around 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 19 in the 5700 block of Oakton Street.

COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY

  • A patron of a restaurant in the 7000 block of Carpenter Road tried to pay with a counterfeit $100 bill around 5:41 p.m. on Feb. 19.
  • A shopper at Market place on Oakton, 4817 Oakton St., tried to pay for grocery items with a counterfeit $100 bill.

PRESCRIPTION FRAUD
An unidentified woman picked up a fraudulent prescription from the CVS Pharmacy at 4955 Dempster St. between 11:12 a.m. on Jan. 31 and 3 p.m. on Feb. 21. She was described as in her late 20s or early 30s, 150 pounds, with dark hair in a ponytail and a medium complexion. She was wearing a dark blue sweater with white writing, gray sweatpants, white socks and blue Adidas sandals.

SEXUAL EXPLOITATION OF A CHILD
A Kirk Street resident reported that someone sent inappropriate photos to an 11-year-old child via Instagram between Feb. 11 and Feb. 22.

MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT
A car was stolen from the 5200 block of Old Orchard Road between 9 and 11 a.m. on Feb. 25, police were told.

ARMED ROBBERY
A taxi driver was robbed by two men at gunpoint around 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 25 after being dispatched to the 9300 block of Lorel Avenue. One man was described as 5 feet, 5 inches and 160 pounds and wore a black jacket. The other was described as 5 feet, 7 or 8 inches and 160 pounds and wore a black hooded sweatshirt.

AGGRAVATED ROBBERY
Employees at the Market Place on Oakton, 4817 Oakton St., tried to stop a man from eating food from the displays in the store shortly before noon on Feb. 28. The man told staff he had a gun and showed them what looked like a firearm tucked into his waistband. He was then allowed to leave the store. He was described as a heavyset, 6-foot-tall Hispanic man in his 30s with a beard, an earring in his left ear and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and black gym shoes.

ARRESTS

Jasmine R. Gresham, 27, of the first block of East 36th Street, Chicago, was arrested at 1:25 p.m. on Feb. 14 at the Leighton Criminal Court Building in connection with a Nov. 14, 2018, battery at the Old Orchard Bloomingdale's store.

Romaine O. Bennett, 25, of the 8200 block of Kilpatrick Street, Skokie, was arrested at 5:19 p.m. on Feb. 14 in the 4700 block of Madison Avenue and charged with residential burglary, forgery and unlawful use of a credit card in connection with incidents between Dec. 19 and Jan. 6 in the 8200 block of Kilpatrick Avenue.

Ellen R. Fong, 53, of the 300 block of West 23rd Place, Chicago, was arrested around 5 p.m. on Feb. 15 at the Old Orchard shopping center and charged with retail theft earlier that day from a store at the mall.

Jose Miguel Villasenor, 26, of the 1600 block of North Kedvale Avenue, Chicago, was arrested at 11:49 p.m. on Feb. 16 and charged with DUI and DUI with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following an encounter with police that began in the 7600 block of McCormick Avenue and ended in the 2400 block of Howard Street in Evanston.

Herman J. Levant, 54, of the 4800 block of Conrad Street, Skokie, was arrested around 1 a.m. on Feb. 16 and charged with DUI, DUI with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater and driving with a revoked license following a traffic stop in the 8500 block of Keeler Avenue.

Oluwaseun O. Folorunso, 33, of the 2500 block of West Jerome Street, Chicago, was arrested around 2 p.m. on Feb. 17 and charged with endangering the life of a child at the Skokie Walmart, 3626 Touhy Ave.

Brittany Powell, 23, of the 5900 block of West Huron Street, Chicago, was arrested around 9 p.m. on Feb. 18 in the 7300 block of Ridgeway Avenue, Skokie, and charged with retail theft, theft and resisting or obstructing police following an incident at the Skokie Walmart, 3626 Touhy Ave.

Adan M. Osorio, 22, of the 4700 block of North Keating Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 5 p.m. on Feb. 19 in the 5200 block of Howard Street and charged with possession of between 30 and 100 grams of cannabis and possession of drug equipment.

Alan De Jesus Hernando Montoya, 22, of the 1400 block of West Greenleaf Avenu, Chicago, was arrested around 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 19 and charged with retail theft at the Old Orchard shopping center.

Rukija Gurzakovic, 28, of the 2400 block of W. Gunnison Street, Chicago, was arrested shortly after 8 p.m. on Feb. 20 and charged with retail theft at the Skokie Walmart, 3626 Touhy Ave.

Albert E. Youkhana, 30, of the 5300 block of North Ashland Avenue, Chicago, was arrested at 12:01 a.m.. on Feb. 22 in the 3600 block of Touhy Avenue and charged with possession of a controlled substance. Police said he was arrested after police were told he struck a person in the neck and officers learned he had an active arrest warrant.

Isaac Y. Ishak, 22, of the 8500 block of Crawford Avenue, Skokie, was arrested around 1 a.m. on Feb. 24 in the 4300 block of Bobolink Terrace and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Peter T. Sasser, 51, of the 600 block of Carriage Hill Drive, Glenview, was arrested at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 26 in the 4600 block of Oakton Street and charged with retail theft.

Helen Rodriguez, 38, of the 5600 block of South Francisco Avenue, Chicago, was arrested at 1:47 p.m. on Feb. 28 in the 4900 block of Dempster Street and charged with forgery.

Demaris R. Ventura, 21, of the 6900 block of North Rosemary Lane, Niles, was arrested around 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 in the 6900 block of North Milwaukee Avenue and charged with criminal damage to property.
