Piven Theatre Workshop has been devising new literary adaptations since our inception over forty years ago. In this class, we will give our adult students the opportunity to experience the joy and creativity of an ensemble-driven, text-based devising process. Through six weeks of group improvisation exercises and text exploration, students will adapt and perform stories together.

Improvisation for the Stage
with Tom Herman
Based on his work with the Piven Improvisation Ensemble (PIE), instructor Tom Herman will teach students to create long form improvisation ensembles capable of going in and out of scenic improvisation, story theatre, and abstract forms of ensemble expression. Students will also have the opportunity to form their own ensembles and develop their own performance concepts under Herman’s expert guidance.
