Will New Starbucks Cause Problems for School Kids?

Representatives of both Fairview South and Hillel Torah concerned about safety and traffic.

SKOKIE, IL - Nearby schools have raised concern over a planned retail development that would include a Starbucks at the site of Jack’s Restaurant.

Representatives from both Fairview South Elementary School and Hillel Torah North Suburban Day School, just down the street from the proposed Starbucks on Touhy Avenue, said they would have liked more time to study the proposal at a recent Skokie Plan Commission meeting where several measures paving the way for the project to begin were put into place, according to the Skokie Review.

Concerns were raised about safety and traffic, especially since the morning school rush is often concurrent with the morning coffee rush.

But neither school rep totally quashed the idea.

“We don’t want to kill this project,” said lawyer Eli Rosenblum representing Hillel Torah North Suburban Day School. “We think this project is a great project. The economic benefits of having a Starbucks at this location are obvious.”
