Window Opens For Niles Township Property Tax Assessment Appeals
Residents have until Dec. 3 to appeal the Cook County Assessor's Office's 2021 property valuations.
SKOKIE, IL — Niles Township residents who want to challenge the county's assessment of the taxable value of their property have until Dec. 3 to file an appeal.
Reassessment notices started being sent out this week, according to the Cook County Assessor's Office. This year's assessments will be used to calculate residents' property tax bill for next year.
Appealing to the county assessor is the first of three opportunities for property owners to reduce their tax bills.

Once the new assessments are certified, homeowners and landlords can appeal them to the Cook County Board of Review. Those decisions can then be appealed to the Property Tax Appeal Board, a statewide quasi-judicial body.
Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin said his office would help Niles Township residents seek to reduce their property tax bill.
