15-Year Old Girl Shot, Killed While Walking In Englewood

A 15-year-old girl was shot in the chest near 69th and Carpenter Tuesday night.

CHICAGO, IL - A 15-year-old girl was shot and killed Tuesday night as she was walking down a street with her friend in the city's Englewood neighborhood. Chicago police say the girl was hit by multiple gunshots around 8:30 p.m. in the 6900 block of South Carpenter Street.

The girl was shot in the chest and was later pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Police haven't found the shooter as of Wednesday morning and are unsure of who the intended target was. They believe the shots came from a gangway as the girl and her friend stopped at a home where several people were gathered on the porch.

The girl was not immediately identified.

Police say their Area South detectives continue to investigate the incident.
