CHICAGO, IL — A suspect in a narcotics investigation who police say fled on foot in a pursuit in the city's Bronzeville neighborhood was shot and killed Wednesday night. Chicago police confirmed the death of the man, who reports say was killed during a shootout in the 300 block of 47th Street around 8:15 p.m.
A statement from Chicago police indicates officers working the drug case ordered a man to stop before the man showed a gun "and an armed encounter between the offender and police ensued."
During the armed encounter, a police officer shot the man. He was taken to the University of Chicago trauma center in critical condition and later died there as a result of the wounds he sustained in the shooting. The fatal victim was not immediately identified Wednesday night.
