'Cops And Robbers' Game In Rundown Apartment Ends With Boy, 3, Shot In Temple: Police
The victim, who's in critical condition, was playing with a group of kids and no adult supervision when the shooting occurred.

CHICAGO, IL — A 3-year-old boy was playing "cops and robbers" with other kids in a South Side apartment described as "deplorable" when he was shot in the head and critically wounded Thursday afternoon, the Chicago Tribune reports.
The boy was shot in the temple just before 5 p.m. Thursday, March 16, in an apartment in the 6200 block of South Aberdeen Street in the Englewood neighborhood, the report stated. He was taken to Comer's Children's Hospital, where he underwent surgery and was in critical condition early Friday morning, the report added.
According to Chicago police, the boy and the other children, who were all 11 years old and younger, were in an apartment that had no heat or hot water, the report stated. There also was no adult supervision at the time of the incident, the report added.

Police took the boy's parents into custody, but charges have not been filed against them, the report stated. Officers also are trying to locate a teenager who might have been at the apartment when the shooting occurred, the report added.

A handgun and a large amount of drugs were recovered from the scene, the report stated. Officers also found a FOID card for a .40-caliber handgun belonging to the boy's mother in the apartment, as well as a spent shell casing that matched the caliber of the recovered firearm next to the boy, who neighbors said was known as "Bam Bam," the report added.

The apartment building where the boy lived has numerous housing code violations over the years and was last inspected March of 2016, the report stated. The family was using the stove to heat the unit, the report added.
