Off-Duty Robbins Cop Fatally Shoots Alleged Offender on South Side: Chicago Police

The shooting happened after "a possible armed robbery" in the West Pullman neighborhood, a CPD spokesman says.

CHICAGO, IL — An off-duty officer from a south suburban police department fatally shot an alleged offender Friday morning on the South Side, according to a Chicago police spokesman. The officer, who is part of the Robbins Police Department, was not hurt in the incident, the spokesman added.

The shooting happened early Friday, Jan. 20, in the city's West Pullman neighborhood, spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. The officer shot the alleged offender "after a possible attempted robbery" in the 12300 block of South Wallace Street, he added.

Friday morning's fatal shooting comes days after Chicago police Ofc. Lowell Houser was charged with first-degree murder stemming from an incident that occured while he was off duty.

Houser allegedly shot and killed Jose Nieves, 38, on Jan. 2, after the two men, who had a history of disputes, had been arguing. The 28-year veteran CPD officer claims Nieves attacked him, and he fired in self-defense.
