IDOT Announces CSX Track Repairs And Closures This Week

IDOT announces 79th Street closures between Columbus and Cicero Avenue in Chicago.

CHICAGO, IL -- The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced that 79th Street is fully closed at the CSX railroad tracks between Columbus Avenue to Cicero Avenue, in Chicago, beginning, weather permitting, Monday, May 14. The closure is necessary to perform repairs to the railroad crossing. Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area.

In order to complete the repairs, 79th Street is fully closed between Columbus Avenue and Cicero Avenue. A posted detour will direct eastbound 79th Street traffic to go south on Cicero Avenue and northeast on Columbus Avenue (Southwest Highway) to meet back with 79th Street. Westbound 79th Street traffic should take the reverse route.

The crossing repairs are expected to be completed by Tuesday, May 22, weather permitting.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
