Man Accused of Aiming Gun With Laser Sight at Motorists

Cook County Sheriff's police found a loaded .40-caliber Glock in Derrick Harrington's vehicle.

CHICAGO — A 21-year-old man is accused of aiming a handgun laser sight at motorists early Monday morning on the South Side, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.

Derrick Harrington, of Chicago, was charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault with a handgun laser in the incident. Harrington's Firearm Ownership ID and conceal carry license also are in the process of being revoked.

At about 1 a.m., a driver told police at a safety check in the 7100 block of South Indiana Avenue that a man drove up and pointed a gun and its laser sight at her and her passenger. The driver also told police the man was still in the vehicle behind her.

Police pulled over Harrington, but he refused to show his hands and get out of his vehicle, according to the report. Eventually, officers were able to remove him from the car and handcuff him without incident.

A loaded .40 caliber Glock handgun with an activated laser sight also was found by police under the driver's seat, the report stated.
