Police Fatally Shoot Alleged Attacker Who Was Firing on Another Man: Cops

The shooting happened late Friday night in the West Englewood neighborhood.

CHICAGO, IL — Police shot and killed a male shooter who officers saw firing at another man late Friday night in the West Englewood neighborhood, according to police.

Officers were on a routine patrol at about 11:49 p.m. in the 2000 block of West 69th Street when they saw the alleged attacker shooting at a man, police said in a statement. The shooter was ordered to drop his weapon, but he continued firing at the 26-year-old man.

That's when police opened fire on the shooter, fatally wounding him, the report said. No officers were hurt in the exchange.

The 26-year-old victim of the shooter was wounded in the stomach, and he was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said. He was in stable condition.

The Independent Police Review Authority is now investigating the shooting. The officer who fatally shot the attacker will be placed on routine administrative duties for 30 days, police said.

Friday's shooting happened less than 5 miles from where the 15-year-old grandson of U.S. Rep. Danny Davis was fatally shot in the head five hours earlier while fighting two home invaders who broke into his South Side home.
