South Side Man Shot By Police After Stabbing Officer Is Charged: CPD

A 41-year-old man accused of holding a woman at knife point and stabbing an CPD officer in the head is charged with numerous felonies.

CHICAGO — A 41-year-old man who was shot by police Saturday night after he allegedly lunged at an officer with a knife is facing several felony charges. Romaine Heath, of Chicago, has been charged with two counts of home invasions with a dangerous weapon, unlawful restraint, aggravate assault of a peace officer, home invasion causing injury, and aggravated armed kidnapping.

Officers from the Chicago Police 5th District were called to a disturbance in the 9900 block of South Wentworth Saturday evening. They were met by a citizen outside, who said a man entered his home and was holding a woman at knife point in the bedroom.

When officers went to the bedroom they encountered a man, later identified as Heath, police said he was holding a woman at knife point. The woman was pulled to safety. Heath disobeyed repeated orders to drop the knife, police said.

Police said an officer deployed his Taser at Heath, but it was ineffective. Heath lunged at the officer and stabbed him in the head, according to the charges. Another officer shot Heath.
