South Side Students Earn Chick Evans Scholarships at McAuley

Bronzeville resident Khadijah Olowu and Yaitzell Noriega, of Gage Park, named Evans Scholars at Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School.

Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School is three seniors who have been named 2017 Chick Evans Scholars. Yaitzell Noriega, of Gage Park, and Khadijah Olowu, of Bronzeville, along with Oak Lawn resident Brigid Rakow received the prestigious honor.

“This scholarship helps me to live out dreams and make my community proud,” said Yaitzell, who plans to attend Marquette University in the fall. “Being an Evans Scholar gives me the opportunity to make a difference and I could not be any more grateful and honored to be a part of such a wonderful organization.”

The Evans Scholars Foundation awards full tuition and housing scholarships to high-achieving
caddies with limited financial means. Established in 1930 by the Western Golf Association and
celebrated amateur golfer Charles “Chick” Evans Jr., the foundation administers the nation’s
largest scholarship program for caddies. Currently, 935 students are enrolled at 20 universities,
including 15 where the Evans Scholars Foundation operates Scholarship Houses. More than
10,400 men and women have graduated as Evans Scholars.
