Students Hospitalized After Eating Mystery Substance at South Side School
South Shore FIne Arts Academy officials called 911 Friday after seeing the children eat the "unknown substance."

CHICAGO, IL — Students at a South Side elementary school were taken to the hospital Friday after they ate "an unknown substance" during school hours, according to NBC 5 Chicago.
A statement from Chicago Public Schools said South Shore Fine Arts Academy officials saw several children eat the substance, the report stated. The officials then called 911, and emergency crews were sent to the school, 1415 E. 70th St., the report added.
As a safety precaution, several students were taken to a nearby hospital, the report stated. How many students ate the substance and how many were hospitalized was not disclosed. Details about the type of substance that was eaten and why officials thought it was dangerous also were not released.
